Panchkula, August 22

A day after heavy rainfall, which had created flood-like situation in Panchkula, residents were busy setting their house in order.

As the rainwater had entered houses in Sectors 16 and 19, residents had taken out beds, mattresses, sofa sets, clothes, curtains, footwear and other items outside their homes and dried them up in the open.

In Sector 19, MC workers cleaned road gullies and also entertained the complaints of blockage in sewer lines inside the houses.

In Sector 19, people had even engaged private people to clean kothis, where rainwater had entered. Though roads of all sectors were damaged after the downpour, internal roads of the Industrial Area have developed huge potholes which are filled with rainwater. People were finding it difficult to drive on the roads in the Industrial Area.

Mohan Singh, an industrialist, said roads in the Industrial Area get damaged after every rainfall. Nobody from HUDA or the MC turns up to repair these roads. They had contacted the authorities a number of times in this regard, but to no avail. The industrialists pay maximum tax, still the authorities failed to provide basic amenities to them.

Sameer Sethi, a resident of Sector 16, said the MC and HUDA should revamp the entire drainage system of the city. With only cleaning of road gullies and drains, the situation will not be solved. Besides the authorities should take action against field officials, who failed to perform their duties of cleaning road gullies in time, he suggested.
