Panjab varsity, US labs ink pact

CHANDIGARH: A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Sandia National Laboratories, managed by National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia, USA, and Panjab University, Chandigarh.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Sandia National Laboratories, managed by National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia, USA, and Panjab University, Chandigarh. The MoU will promote the culture of biorisk management among researchers across India.

The areas of cooperation will include activities, Biorisk Management (BRM) workshops and programmes offered at either organisation which directly work toward promoting topics, strengthening work practices, raising human capabilities and capacity and encouraging research in improving the overall environment of biosafety and biosecurity in biological research institutions across India.

Douglas J Bruder, Associate Laboratories Director, Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), USA, signed the MoU on behalf of NTESS. Prof Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor, PU, signed the MOU on behalf of the university. Both participants of the MoU feel there was an urgent need to train bio-researchers to carry out research in a safe and secure environment to protect people and environment from inadvertent release and exposure to potentially threatening biological agents and toxins.
