A 32-year-old patient jumped from the second floor of Ivy Hospital in Sector 71 in the wee hours today. The patient, Pradeep Singh, was undergoing treatment for epilepsy at the neurology department of the hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on February 10.

The incident occurred around 5 am when the victim went to a washroom in the general ward, smashed a windowpane and allegedly jumped from an opening, sustaining injuries to his leg and head.

A ward attendant said, “On hearing the commotion, the staff rushed out and he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for treatment.”

Sources said the victim survived the fall but his condition is said to be critical.

A staff member of the hospital, said, “The victim has two fractures in one leg besides other injuries. He has been undergoing treatment for seizures for some time but he did not take medication regularly and had to be admitted.”

Doctors at the hospital said that they could not comment due to patient-doctor confidentiality. A spokesperson for the hospital said, “The man was suffering from epilepsy. He was brought to the hospital three days ago. This morning, when he was in a toilet, he again got fits. In the process, he tried to come out by smashing windowpane in the toilet, leading to his fall.”
