A student of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, Rohit Kumar, has been selected for the national NSS award. He will be one of the 30 students from across the country.

Kumar (23), a resident of Burail village, has been working with the NSS for the last five years. Pursuing BA from this college, Kumar gives credit to his college teacher Prof Renu Trikha. “She played an important role. She has been my inspiration,” he said.

Kumar has two national records to his credit. In 2015, he along with his group of volunteers painted 126 sq feet graffiti on life of a woman. “We entered in the Limca Book of Records for this feat. It was my idea. We showed various stages in a woman’s life,” he said.

The other feat is for converting a barren patch of land in the college into a green area by planting herbal trees in 10 hours. “We entered the India

Book of Records for this,” he said. Kumar’s father works as a marketing executive and mother a housewife.

The college has adopted Khuda Ali Sher village where they have been organising awareness drive about drug addiction, skill development and youth related activities.
