People with a criminal background, including a proclaimed offender (PO) who is a close aide of gangster Sandeep Nehra, and Rinku, a Dadu Majra resident who has a criminal past, were also present at Sahdev Salaria’s birthday bash.

NSUI leader Pankaj Jakhar, who is wanted by the Punjab Police, was also present at the party and received injuries on his head and both hands. Pankaj was NSUI’s poster boy for the Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections held in September.

Pankaj, along with Nehra and others, was booked in a carjacking case registered at the Patiala Urban Estate police station in 2016. He was declared a PO in March this year.

Chetan Munjal, one of the suspects who opened fire on the opposite group, was also booked in 2011 in a case of attempt to murder and rioting registered at the Sector 3 police station. Munjal and others, who were armed, had allegedly attacked three youths at a fuel station in Sector 10. Police sources said Rinku also had a criminal past. “We are collecting information regarding his antecedents,” said the sources.
