PU prof gets Rs 1.65-cr project

Chandigarh: Kashmir Singh, associate professor at the department of biotechnology, Panjab University, has been granted a project on genome editing of potato by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Agriculture Science Fund (ICAR-NASF), New Delhi.



Chandigarh: Kashmir Singh, associate professor at the department of biotechnology, Panjab University, has been granted a project on genome editing of potato by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Agriculture Science Fund (ICAR-NASF), New Delhi. The total cost of project is Rs 1.65 crore and it will be run in collaboration with CPRI, Shimla and IISER, Trivandrum. Singh will work on designing CRISPR-CAS mediated gene-editing methods to convert the process of meiosis into mitosis for the generation of true potato seeds. The work will ensure low heterozygosity in potato seeds and will help farmers to grow true hybrid crop, along with low pathogen infections. tns

Golden jubilee celebrated

Chandigarh: MCM DAV College for Women celebrated its golden jubilee by organising Swarnim Abhinandan here on Monday. Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. Principal Nisha Bhargava presented a report highlighting the achievements of the college.He advocated continuous research and innovation for accelerating the evolving of the education system into one that promoted progress of the society and upliftment of weaker sections.
