Saras Mela kicks off

AMBALA:State Health Minister Anil Vij inaugurated a 12-day Saras Mela at the Gandhi Ground in Ambala Cantonment this evening.

State Health Minister Anil Vij inaugurated a 12-day Saras Mela at the Gandhi Ground in Ambala Cantonment this evening.

The fair is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Rural Development and the district administration.

Over 200 craftsmen from 22 states, including Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam and Jharkhand, would showcase their items in the fair. Besides, artisans from different states would also show their culture.

The Minister visited the stalls setup by the craftsmen and interacted with them.

Vij said the fair provides an opportunity to get familiar with culture and lifestyle of people from different regions of the country and giving a platform to craftsmen to sell their products. The fair must be called “Bharat Dharshan mela” as artists across the country showcase their talent at the fair giving a glimpse of the entire country.

While paying tributes to martyrs, the minister said Pakistan would have to pay the price for Pulwama attack.

While speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur said: “It is a matter of pride for us that we have been given the opportunity to host the mela. Cultural shows will be organised every evening during the 12-day fair”.
