Sky Rock City Society penalised

MOHALI:Giving relief to complainants in seven different cases against Sky Rock City Welfare Society, the Mohali District Consumer Forum ordered the opposite party (Sky Rock) not only to refund the invested money but also pay compensation to the tune of at least Rs 35,000 to each of the complainant in the cases.

Giving relief to complainants in seven different cases against Sky Rock City Welfare Society, the Mohali District Consumer Forum ordered the opposite party (Sky Rock) not only to refund the invested money but also pay compensation to the tune of at least Rs 35,000 to each of the complainant in the cases.

The complainants in the cases included Chandigarh-based Narinder Pal Singh and Manu Saroch, Satish Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Krishan Kumar from Ambala, Ajay Kumar, Kavita Devi Sharma and Mohinder Kumar, all residents of Chandigarh.

As per their complaints, all of them have deposited certain amount, ranging between Rs 2.10 lakh and Rs 3.70 lakh, to the society to get various sizes of plots in Mullanpur, Part II, Mohali.

In their complaints to the forum, Narinder Pal and Manu Saroch (joint complainants), Manoj Kumar, Krishan Kumar from Ambala and Ajay Kumar alleged that they had paid Rs 2.10 lakh each to the opposite party to purchase 100 sq yd plot in Mullanpur, Part II, Mohali. Similarly, Satish Kumar alleged that he had given Rs 3.70 lakh, while Kavita Devi Sharma and Mohinder Kumar claimed to have deposited Rs 3,47,500 and Rs 2.50 lakh, respectively.

The complainants alleged that the company had promised to handover the possession of their properties within two years at the time of preparing agreements. As the promise was not kept, the complainants approached the forum to get justice.

In its decision in the cases, the forum directed the society to refund the respective amount to each complainant, along with 12 per cent interest rate, and also pay compensation of Rs 25,000 on account of mental agony due to the negligent act of the opposite party and litigation cost of Rs 10,000 to each of them.
