Patiala, August 7

Annoyed over the alleged misbehaviour by the inspection team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) with the senior faculty members of the Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, on August 4, members of the Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA), Patiala Unit, has sought the removal of these members from the panel of MCI inspection team permanently.

Dr DS Bhullar, general secretary of PSMDTA, said, “Dr Mukhopadhyay, Professor of Physiology from Medical College, Kolkata, during inspection misbehaved with senior faculty members, insulted them verbally using words like “you are big zero” and tried to bully them.” He allegedly raised unwanted objections during the inspection at Anatomy Dissection Hall and College Library.

“This act on the part of the MCI inspector is unacceptable for the whole faculty of this institute and we condemn the same with request to take necessary action against this member. We demand removal of such arrogant persons from the MCI panel which brings a bad name to this highest governing body of medical professionals in the country,” he added. He alleged that another member of the MCI, Dr Ramesh Bharti, Coordinator, Professor of Surgery from Medical College, Tanda, pointed out deficiencies without checking the facts like insufficient lighting in lecture theatres and not recognising the promotion of one faculty member, Dr Kuldeep Singh, in the Surgery Department. The members rued that the MCI should take strict action against the MCI inspection team for showing irresponsible behaviour as this was not the first time they had misbehaved with the faculty.—TNS
