Temperature hits another low at 13°C

A day after the city saw the coldest day in the past three years, the temperature plunged one degree and settled at 13 degree Celsius, nine notches below normal. The minimum temperature was also recorded at 10.5 degree Celsius.

There was a difference of merely 2.5 degrees between the day and the night temperature.

Yesterday, the Met Department had recorded the maximum temperature of 14.2 degree Celsius. Further, strong winds made life miserable for city residents.

According to the weatherman, the situation will remain the same even on Saturday. The dip in the temperature has been witnessed due to rain and snowfall at the higher reaches.

“The situation will begin to improve and one can expect a sunny Sunday,” said Surinder Paul, director, Chandigarh Meteorological Centre.

However, the Met Department has predicted that there will be some respite from the chill on Sunday. There will be improvement in foggy conditions from December 18 onwards.

“There are no chances of rain in the coming days,” said Paul.

While the maximum temperature was 23°C on Monday, the minimum was registered at 11°C. The temperature dropped to 18.1°C on Tuesday, while on Wednesday it tumbled to 18.2°C. The lowest remained around 12.6 degree Celsius on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the mercury dipped to 14.2°C, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 11.3 degree Celsius.

According to the weatherman, North-Western disturbance had lessened the difference between the day and night temperature.

The fog continued to affect trains. Except Shatabdi, other trains continued their sluggish run. Kalka Mail continued its delayed run. It was scheduled to arrive at 3 am, but it reached the station around 5 am.

Barmer-Kalka Express was also delayed by two hours and seven minutes and it reached here at 7.35 am. Chandigarh-Bandra was late by 54 minutes. It was schedule to arrive at 4.20 pm, whereas it reached the station at 5.14 pm.
