Thieves struck at two flats in ATS, a housing society, Dera Bassi and decamped with jewellery and other valuables worth of lakhs of rupees.
According to sources, the owners were not present when the thieves targeted their flats. The incident came to light in the morning when sanitation workers saw the locks broken. They immediately informed the security guards, who later called the police.
The sources said the miscreants first struck at flat number 1034, which belongs to Col TS Kalra (Retd) and he had gone to Delhi. Her daughter Gurpreet living in the adjacent tower said the thieves decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh and Rs 60,000 in cash.
The thieves also targeted flat number 1064 after breaking open the locks of the main door and ransacked the entire house.
The owner of the flat, Vikram Kumar, who is the manager of an Axis Bank’s branch, Ambala, had also gone out of station for vacations.
The police reached the spot and initiated investigations. The police have also procured CCTV footage of the area to get some clues in the incidents.
