PATIALA: A case has been registered against a man after his wife allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Bhakhra canal. The case has been registered on the complaint of the woman’s mother.

A case has been registered against a man after his wife allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Bhakhra canal. The case has been registered on the complaint of the woman’s mother.

In her complaint, Usha, the mother of the deceased, said her daughter was married to the accused, identified as Varinder Kumar of Azamgarh, who became an alcoholic.

The complainant said, “My daughter used to tell me that her husband used to beat her and demand money. She said her daughter left her house on November 26 and her dead body was later recovered from the Tohana head of the Bhakhra main line. She alleged that her daughter Suman (26) committed suicide as she was a victim of cruelty by  her husband.

The police have registered a case against the husband Varinder Kumar of Azamgarh under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code at the Kotwali police station.
