Chandigarh, April 19

Two years after the launch, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has started the construction work of flats under the Sector 51 housing scheme.

The CHB had launched the 200-flat scheme in April 2016, but the work was delayed due to encroachment on the land.

Now, the construction work has started after the CHB removed the encroachment. Land measuring 4.48 acres in Sector 51 was earmarked for the project, but around one acre was in possession of three saw mills since 1988. The mill owners were in litigation against the Chandigarh Administration seeking rehabilitation.

The litigation delayed the project for more than 2 years and caused hardship to the allottees who gave full payment in advance to the Board.

Sources in the CHB said the construction of flats would be completed by June 2019.

One of the allottees of the flats said the CHB should complete the project without further delay. He said they had started repaying the loan, but the construction work was delayed .The allottees paid more than Rs 70 lakh for the flats. The allottees paid the amount within 90 days from the date of issuance of an acceptance-cum-demand letter as per the terms and conditions.

Reason behind delay
