To determine the cause of death, the police today sent blood samples and viscera of 23-year-old Gurdeep Singh to the Kharar lab for examination.

Victim Gurdeep, a resident of Rani Majra village near Handesra, had been missing since February 13 from his village and he could not be traced till the victim’s father, Jasbir, came to know about his death through a phone call. Following which, he filed a complaint against Major Singh at the Handesra police post. Jasbir accused Major Singh of killing his son.

Sources said the autopsy of the deceased proved to be inconclusive and viscera was preserved for further examination.

The postmortem report had also stated that no injury marks were found on the body. Viscera had been sent to the lab for further examination to know the exact cause of death, the police added.

The police do not rule out the possible involvement of an insider who made Gurdeep eat something. The police are also checking if any poisonous substance accidentally got mixed in the food.

Besides, a probe into the complaint filed by the deceased’s father is being conducted by the investigation officer. The police said action would be taken on the basis of the inquiry report.

“We hope that things will get clearer after receiving the lab report,” the police added.
