PATIALA: In a shocking incident, a BMW car-borne youth allegedly thrashed an on-duty Traffic Police constable and tore his uniform near Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib here this evening.

In a shocking incident, a BMW car-borne youth allegedly thrashed an on-duty Traffic Police constable and tore his uniform near Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib here this evening.

The video of the same has gone viral wherein the accused can be seen thrashing the constable and tearing his uniform. The police have registered a case against the accused, Himanshu Mittal (29), under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his 

duty and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public function) of the IPC.

The incident took place when constable Om Prakash intercepted the BMW car (bearing registration number PB-11CB-7430) of the accused businessman coming from the wrong side. The constable asked the driver for papers for issuing challan, but the driver allegedly started arguing with him. He later got out of his car and slapped the constable, who also retaliated. Mittal even tore the uniform of the constable.

Other policemen present on the shop and nearby shopkeepers came to the rescue of the cop and tried to pacify Mittal. However, the accused again started hurling abuses and tried to attack the cop.

ASI Nirmal Singh, who was present on the spot, said, said Om Prakash had only asked the driver to follow the rules and asked him to show him necessary documents, but the driver got infuriated and attacked the on-duty officer.

SP (City) Kesar Singh confirmed that a case had been registered against the accused driver. He said the accused did not even have his driving license and registration documents of the vehicle.
