New Delhi, April 19

Resident doctors of the AIIMS have threatened to go on strike if the administration fails to take action against rising cases of theft on the campus claiming their complaints have not been redressed yet.

The resident doctors' association has demanded that security be stepped up in all duty rooms of doctors and immediate monetary compensation as promised for all lost items along with efficient follow up of complaints.

The doctors' body has also sought transfer of the AIIMS police post-in-charge with immediate effect asserting that patient-care cannot be delivered in an unsafe and uncooperative environment. The doctors' body has accused the AIIMS security of being callous while raising question on the behaviour of the chief security officer.

In the recent past many valuables and gadgets, including laptops, mobile phones and personal belongings, including vehicles of resident doctors, have been stolen from duty rooms, changing rooms and campus while they are at work. But all their complaints have gone unheeded with no follow-up, said doctors.

They alleged that in several cases, no action has been taken despite CCTV camera footage of culprits and that many residents have not even received assured compensation for items lost many years ago. — TNS
