New Delhi, April 28

At a passing-out parade of newly recruited constables of Delhi Police in Jharoda Kalan, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju appreciated the team work of the police within limited resources to cater to the growing demands of the city.

The Minister advised the new recruits to be true professional police officers and urged them to come forward and accept the challenges of policing in the Capital. He was happy to know that these constables have been trained in counter-terrorism techniques, cybercrime, unarmed combat, etc.

He said Delhi Police is the best police in the country and this quality should be maintained.

Saying that police officers should be sensitive to the security needs of women, he urged them to protect the poor and weaker section of society.

Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik said that this batch would augment the trained manpower of Delhi Police. A total of 964 constables, including 202 women, will showcase India’s unity in diversity as 433 constables are from North East, 105 constables from Daman and Diu Police. They have been trained in law, police science, criminology, computer applications, cyber crime and human rights, he said.

The police chief said that for effective community policing, they have been sensitised on gender issues, crime against women, etc.
