The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday instituted an enquiry over the delay in installation of CCTV cameras in the capital and has sought detailed information from the Home Secretary as well as the PWD Secretary of the Delhi government in the matter.

It issued notice to the Home Secretary and PWD Secretary to know the date-wise steps taken for the implementation of the cabinet decision, copies of relevant files as well as detailed timeline by which CCTV cameras shall be installed across Delhi and asked them to provide the information latest by October 29.

“Every day, the state is witnessing six or more rapes and countless molestation and other forms of sexual assault. No day passes by when a woman or girl has not been brutalised in the capital,” said DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal.

Maliwal stated, “The people of Delhi have waited desperately for the CCTVs to be installed in the capital. CCTVs will help tremendously in reducing crime which is currently at an all time high. However, it is sad that CCTVs have not been installed in the capital despite the Cabinet deciding the same in 2015. We have issued notice to Home and PWD Secretary to ascertain the reasons for the delay and the time by when the CCTVs will be installed.”
