Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday directed suspension of the “erring” officials after discrepancies were found over de-silting of drains in official reports submitted by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the actual situation on the ground in the city.

No laxity will be tolerated on such important issues concerning public health, Kejriwal warned officials.

Kejriwal, who this evening was at the site inspection of the de-silting of drains at three locations in Ambedkar Nagar, found that despite official paper reports of drains having been 100 per cent de-silted they were seen to be “choked”.

“Even the locals at the spot complained to the chief minister that no de-silting work had been carried out,” said an official.

Following which the chief minister directed suspension of the responsible officials and warned that no laxity will be tolerated on such important issues concerning the public health, he added.

During the inspections at Old MB Road Khanpur (Pipal Chowk), Valmiki Mandir Marg and Rajaram Marg near the BRT Road, Kejriwal was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, PWD Minister Satyendar Jain and senior officials of the PWD and district administration. The area’s MLA Ajay Dutt also accompanied the team during the inspection.
