New Delhi, July 9

Installations of police stations, colonies or police lines will be illuminated with the electricity produced by solar energy system very soon as the Lt Governor, Anil Baijal, has given his nod to the proposal in this regard.

Therefore, Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited will install the solar energy system on these buildings and will maintain the same.

A senior police officer said they are planning to install solar energy system in 13 districts and 192 police stations and nearly 160 colonies of the police. The new police headquarters building, which is under construction behind Sansad Marg Police Station, is also planned to have solar power.

It is to be noted that the Delhi Police pay crores of rupees every year in form of electricity bills and by installing solar system a huge amount of electricity bills can be curtailed.

Recently in a meeting with the LG, this has been decided that solar system should be used at the maximum installations in the city. In this regard, the Secretary (Energy) wrote a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, Amulya Patnaik, and asked to send a proposal in this matter.

According to another senior officer, soon the supply of electricity to the police department will be done by the solar system and on using the electricity beyond the fix limit additional charges will have to be paid. But after solar power installation, a huge power bills will be avoided.
