Two friends die while swimming in Yamuna

Of the three friends, who went to swim in river Yamuna, two died of drowning. The incident was reported from Burari's Jagatpur Ghat here.

The three friends: Varun, Prateek and Manoj, had gone to take a dip in the river and mistakenly went deeper into the river and the two — Varun and Manoj — died of drowning.

According to the locals of the area, due to sand mafias active at the river bed, some places have become deeper. Incidents of drowning have increased in the last few months, they added stating that the people who go for swimming in the river don’t have the idea about the depth of the river. Also, there are no security measures taken by the authorities to secure the river bed like installing warning boards so that people can avoid going into the river and avoid the mishapenings.

Residents of the Burari area have requested authorities to deploy divers at the river side in case of such accidents.
