Over 2,000 cops to be deployed on New Year's Eve

CHANDIGARH: Over 2,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city on New Year’s Eve, who will stay on duty till early morning to ensure that any untoward incident does not take place.

Over 2,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city on New Year’s Eve, who will stay on duty till early morning to ensure that any untoward incident does not take place.

Police officials said that elaborate arrangements would be made for the day as many policemen will be deployment in different parts of the city. Secial care would be made in Sectors 8, 9, 10, 15, 17, 26, 34 and 35. “To check hooliganism, vigil will be kept in the areas where there are night clubs, pubs and bars”, sources added.

UT SSP, Sukhchain Singh Gill said that they would ensure presence of policemen in all parts of the city during New Year’s Eve. “We are soon going to hold a meeting to chalk out the final plan for the day, meanwhile, the policemen will be deployed in the city till the revellers go of to sleep”, the SSP said.

Police sources said that the drunk-driving nakas would be laid in different parts of the city.

Special check oints at the entry points will be set up to check the vehicles entering the city.
