Act apart: Amit Gaur

A pilot, a model, and a film actor, newbie actor Amit Gaur, the handsome hunk from the youth-oriented show, The Swim Team on Channel V has made a mark with his TV show as well. He speaks about his career and more...

How did you begin your career in acting?

I have been very passionate about films and flying. I always wanted to work in the industry. I wake up every day to take new challenges when I go to the sets for shooting. Though I have a commercial pilot's license, I was sitting at home for almost three years after returning from America. Meeting people, socially, from the fashion world helped a lot as I got my first show for Provogue in Udaipur, post which I modelled for four years. I shot TV commercials and because I wanted to pursue acting, I did a six-month long course with from the Barry John Institute.

You acted in the film, Force. How did you bag that role?

Force is my first film and I received great positive feedback for my role as a young honest cop. I was keen to start my career with a great film. I reached out to Producer Vipul Shah and John Abraham, who was a friend since modelling days when they were casting people for roles.

How do you feel about such a unique show on swimming?

It is a great experience as this is also my debut on television. It is completely different from the typical saas bahu dramas. It allows me also to push for swimming as an individual sport in our country so that more and more young Indians pursue swimming as a career and hopefully one day represent India and win medals and competitions internationally.

Recently you did a kissing scene on the show. What do you think about bold scenes on TV?

The kiss was between TK (Tarun Kapoor) and Umang (played by Ashmita Jaggi) wherein TK is a little tipsy after having a few drinks and Umang who is in love with and obsessed over TK joins him in the pool and at some point takes advantage and kisses him. It was a spontaneous kiss and the response has been good. As for bold scenes, if a script demands it, then I think it is perfectly fine to do any scene.

What prompted you to do the show, The Swim Team?

I was at the right place at the right time I guess. I was at the Endemol office for some work and my friend Praver mentioned this show. He asked me if I was interested in television and when I heard the concept, I loved it. I gave an audition and was confirmed a couple of days later. My character is called Tarun Kapoor (TK) and my role is of a coach of a swimming academy wherein I train students and prepare them to compete in international swimming competitions.
