Abohar, August 29
Work has been affected at the sub-divisional administrative complex in Abohar due to accumulation of rainwater.
Local MLA Sunil Jakhar said the Municipal Council and the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board should have taken steps to drain out water from the premises of the Seva Kendra, also known as Suvidha Kendra.
He said residents in 12 colonies were facing inconvenience due to waterlogged roads and irregular power supply.
Water has entered houses and shops in the low-lying areas of the city and there is waterlogging in almost every part of the city, he said.
He demanded that businessmen, whose shops and stocks were damaged in rain, should be given compensation.
Sources said the administration had discussed the issue at a meeting today and Fazilka-based sub-divisional magistrate and municipal executive officer, who hold the additional charge of Abohar, had been asked to make arrangements to provide relief to residents.
Meanwhile, some businessmen at Sadar Bazaar held a protest against the Municipal Council president, saying he has not made proper arrangements for drainage of rainwater.
