The MC General House today rejected the agenda to issue provisional licences till the time the final approval of vending zones comes from the UT Administration.

The House resolved that by issuing provisional licenses, there will be a complete mess in the system. Rather, the MC should strongly take up the issue of creating vending zones with the UT Administration so that permanent licenses should be given to vendors within a month.

MC Commissioner B Purushartha informed the House that they had already written a letter to the UT Chief Architect to create vending zones as per the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act – 2014 as the proposal by the MC’s Town Vending Committee (TVC) of sites for vending zones was rejected on a number of occasions by the UT Administration.

BJP councillor Arun Sood it was a serious lapse on part of the Administration as they were delaying creating of vending zones, which was further delaying issuance of licences to vendors. The MC delegation should meet the UT Administrator in this regard.

The street vendors’ survey was conducted by the Haryana Nav Yuvak Kala Sangam under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act - 2014. The agency had identified 21,622 vendors during the survey.
