Janaki Devi (40), a resident of Burdhuna village of Mankot Panchayat in Bageshwar district, was injured in a fight with a leopard to save her goat. The woman has been admitted to a local hospital while the leopard succeeded in taking away one of her goats from the pack, sources in the Forest Department said. Sources said Janaki Devi had gone to the local forest to rear her 40 goats. Suddenly, a leopard attacked one of her goats and tried to take it away.

“As the leopard tried to take away the goat, the woman pulled the goat from its legs and fought with the beast for over 20 minutes before it injured her leg which started bleeding profusely. As the woman loosened her grip over the goat, the leopard fled with it,” said Aan Singh Kandli, a forest officer.
