Chief Minister Harish Rawat today ordered a CBCID probe led by an IGP into the incident in which Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay was attacked by villagers when the former was taking Dalits into the Silgur Devta temple at the Punah Pokhri village, Chakrata, in Dehradun on May 20.

Rawat instructed Garhwal Commissioner CS Napalchyal to expedite the investigation into the matter. He said the district administration, city police and the revenue police officials were told to ensure arrest of the guilty who attacked Vijay and his supporters.

The Chief Minister said the state government would strictly deal with those who encouraged discrimination in the state. He said Uttarakhand Home Minister Preetam Singh was told to update him daily about the progress into the matter.

Meanwhile, a joint force comprising officials of revenue and city police arrested three villagers involved in the scuffle at the temple. They have been identified as Sardar Singh, a resident of Punah village, Rajendra Singh, a resident of Pokhri village, and Nain Singh of Bijnu village in Chakrata.

The police also conducted raids at several places to arrest the absconders. The police are said to have detained several suspects, though no official confirmation has been made.

An Additional District Magistrate has been deployed in the region to maintain law and order.

SSP Sadanand Datte said additional police force from Vikasnagar, Chakrata and Kalsi police stations including SP, CO and three SHOs had been deployed to avoid repetition of such incidents in the future. He said intelligence agencies were activated to arrest absconding villagers. Datte said the city police would fully support the revenue police to arrest guilty villagers.
