Officials of the CBI conducted a raid on the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) here today.

It is learnt that the raid was carried out by a Chandigarh team of the CBI. Officials reached NIPER around 7 am in four or five cars and continued their investigations throughout the day.

According to reports, five teams of CBI officials conducted raids on various places on the NIPER campus. Members of one team were seen grilling a NIPER official in the Administrative Bhawan. Another team checked various records at the Secretariat. Raids were reportedly also conducted on the houses of senior officials of the institute.

Employees, who were asked to leave their offices, were seen outside the office buildings. They were also not allowed to talk on their phones to anybody at the time of the raid.

Mediapersons were initially not permitted to enter the gate of the institute. They spent hours outside the gate and it was only at around 1 pm that they were allowed inside the campus. The PRO of NIPER was also not responding to the phone calls from mediapersons.

It was around 3 pm that Ram Gopal, SP, CBI, visited NIPER. He was seen going to the Secretariat and later to the Administrative Bhawan. He refused to divulge any details about the raid when asked by mediapersons.
