Civilian killed, 3 injured in firing near Kupwara attack site

SRINAGAR: A 70-year-old civilian was killed and three others received injuries in a firing incident on Thursday outside the Army camp in Kupwara district, which was attacked by militants on Thursday morning.

Srinagar, April 27

A 70-year-old civilian was killed and three others received injuries in a firing incident on Thursday outside the Army camp in Kupwara district, which was attacked by militants on Thursday morning.

The state police said a mob gathered outside the Army camp in Panzgam village of Kupwara district where five persons -- three army soldiers and two militants, and resorted to stone pelting.

"A 70-year-old civilian has died in the firing outside the Panzgam Army camp, while three other civilians are injured," a police official said.

"A mob had gathered outside the camp after the encounter ended there in the morning. They resorted to heavy stone pelting at the camp, demanding the bodies of slain militants," the police official added.

The Army has not so far confirmed whether the security guards at the camp opened fire at the mob. — IANS
