Class X student of Strawberry Fields shines

Chandigarh: Shivam, a student of Class X, Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, has brought laurels to the school by being selected as a finalist in the International Sustainable World Project Olympiad, Houston, Texas.

Shivam, a student of Class X, Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, has brought laurels to the school by being selected as a finalist in the International Sustainable World Project Olympiad, Houston, Texas. 

"I am the only one from India to qualify directly this year and will be representing Team India in Texas in the month of May this year," says the teenager. 

He has also been selected as Google Science Fair's Asian Finalist for 2016. Shivam was also the second runners-up at Social Innovation Relay, JA Europe 2016, and has also won the first prize at Jawahar Lal Nehru Science, Mathematics and Environmental Exhibition (2015). 

Giving details about his latest venture, Shivam says, "I have been working on a new project - Real Time Detection of Heavy Metal Ions In Water - in which I have discovered a completely new method to detect poisonous heavy metal ions in water (inherited the properties of Anodic Stripping Voltammetry and ElectroChemical Impedance Spectroscopy) and it was linked with Intel's Edison iot Board to provide real-time results via the internet to its user. I am also sponsored by 4D Systems Company to present the results via their LCD. 

“Currently, the methods used for this process cost no less than 10,000 USD but I was able to build a better and more accurate method for less than 100 US dollars. I am in the process of patenting my innovation."

Apart from that, Shivam has won numerous prizes and awards at various college level fests. He has taken a number of college-level courses like Mechatronics, Embedded Systems Coding, Aero modelling at various industrial institutes and colleges.
