Dehradun, February 9

Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Kishore Upadhyay has said that he has written a letter to Chief Minister Harish Rawat demanding adequate compensation for farmers affected by drought-like conditions in the state. He said in-charge of Congress affairs in Uttarakhand Ambika Soni would chair the maiden state-level coordination committee meeting at her residence on February 12.

Upadhyay was addressing mediapersons at Rajeev Bhavan here today. He said senior party leaders and workers would table suggestions and share their experiences at the meeting. Party activists were instructed to pull up their socks for Chief Minister’s two-day Jan Samwad Campaign, which would be held in Bajpur, Khatima, Nanakmatta, Sitarganj and Kiccha in Udham Singh Nagar district, and Champawat. “Grievances of villagers will be addressed on priority and beneficiary schemes would be announced during the campaign,” Upadhyay said.

The UPCC president said party activists had been instructed to gear up for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in 2017. He criticised the Central Government for ignoring the state and accused the BJP of being “biased” in sanctioning development funds and introducing new beneficiary schemes for Uttarakhand.

Upadhyay said next of kin of statehood activists and martyrs would be felicitated at an event at the Chief Minister’s residence on February 16.
