To curb benami properties, women will now be able to avail concession in stamp duty on immovable properties valuing up to Rs 25 lakh only twice. Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik made the announcement following a Cabinet meeting today.

Speaking to mediapersons Kaushik said, “Earlier women were given 25 per cent concession, in case they bought immovable properties valuing up to Rs 25 lakh without any restrictions. Now they can only avail it twice in their lifetime.”

Among other decisions, the Uttarakhand cabinet also decided to hike the one-time marriage grant given to the granddaughters of freedom fighters from Rs 4,000 to Rs 50,000.

The cabinet also decided to increase the retirement age of Ayush doctors from 60 years to 65 years. An approval has also been given for the appointment of officers and non-officers on deputation from the CRPF in the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The cabinet also gave its nod to hold Tehsil Divas on first Tuesday of every month, compulsory visit by ministers to the districts assigned to them once in 45 days and dedicating every Monday for hearing of public complaints in all the districts by the respective district magistrates.

Further, the Cabinet also gave its approval to merge Department of Skill Development with the Department of Labour and Employment and change the nomenclature of Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. The officials say curbs have been put in place to prevent the misuse of the concessional clause for buying benami properties.
