DEHRADUN: The Chief Electoral Officer will act tough with people, organisations and political parties defacing public and private properties with election posters and propaganda material in the run up to the 2017 Assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

The Chief Electoral Officer will act tough with people, organisations and political parties defacing public and private properties with election posters and propaganda material in the run up to the 2017 Assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

Chief Electoral Officer Radha Raturi has issued directives to the District Magistrates and Returning Officers to take stern measures against persons found violating the Uttarakhand public/private distortion/ defacement Act 2003 and 2009 rules and regulations.

According to the provisions of these rules, those booked under the Act could face a one year jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000.
