An earthquake onsite early warning system can be of immense benefit to avoid human casualties in areas such as Uttarakhand that have a history of worst earthquakes.

This earthquake onsite early warning and security system has been patented in the USA, Japan, Iran and Europe. It was demonstrated in Dehradun yesterday.

The device was launched in Dehradun by Bijendra Goel, Managing Director of German company Secretary, Electronics. He said the early warning system was the only device in the world that could connect to any building management system.

“This system has been specifically developed to alarm people and shut off all running applications at primary earthquake waves before the destructive secondary earthquake waves strike and can minimise the huge losses,” Goel said.

The device has a record timing of giving an alarm 30 seconds before the damaging secondary waves hit Chile in the 2010 earthquake. It has not given any false alarm since its installation ten years ago, Goel stated.

He said the device was capable of shutting down industries, trains and transports by managing traffic signals and cutting off power supply.

The Haryana Government had already approved the device and had recommended the same to its various departments to consider it for inclusion in building by laws, he said.

“Uttarakhand is an earthquake-prone state and falls under seismic zone IV and V and onsite early warning system could be of immense usage for this state for ensuring safety and security of the people,” Goel said.

As many as 26 countries across the globe were already using the devise.
