The Doon Girls’ School and the Doon Boys’ School celebrated their 7th Annual Sports Day here on Monday. The guests were welcomed by the director of The Doon Girls’ School, Indira Goswami.

Shalini Bansal, head girl of The Doon Girls’ School, and Devansh Rungta, the Doon Boys’ School prefect, led the march past. The five houses— Cuckoo, Doon Boys, Koel, Myna and Robin— marched in, led by Moulshree Agarwal and Hardik Kanodia, the boys’ school games prefect, Manvi Agarwal, Tamana Goyal and Charvi Suri, respectively.

After the sports meet was opened, the students took oath led by the games captain of The Doon Girls’ School, Sonam Paldren Luding. The school song was sung by The Doon Girls’ School choir.

After the march past, the track events saw children taking part in fun races, besides the 50, 100, 200 m, the hurdle race and baton relay. Prizes for the previously held long jump and shot put events were also given on the occasion.

The guests moved to the amphi-theatre for the second part of the programme which had the yoga, hoop drill, aerobics, scouts and guides, skating and karate displays. The scouts and guides displayed a rescue mission in a fire accident and formed several pyramids. The school choir provided the perfect background for the yoga display with the chanting of shlokas. While the skaters zoomed and glided around on their wheels the choir sang ‘Darna Nahi tu badhte jaana, aayega ab naya ujaala’.

Girls with dumb-bells put up an energetic aerobics display. At the end of the hoop display the students created a beautiful wave with their colourful hoops. Sonam Paldren Luding presented the vote of thanks.
