Gangster’s aides unleash panic after his arrest

LUDHIANA: Following the arrest of gangster Lovely Lamba from here this evening, his supporters created a ruckus and forcibly shut shops near the Clock Tower and in Chaura Bazar.

Following the arrest of gangster Lovely Lamba from here this evening, his supporters created a ruckus and forcibly shut shops near the Clock Tower and in Chaura Bazar. They vandalised a few shops and blocked traffic.

As soon as news of the gangster’s arrest spread, around 125 of his supporters started creating a ruckus, causing panic among the residents of the Clock Tower area. The police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the mob. Following the incident, huge police force was deployed in the entire area.

The police arrested the gangster from the lottery market near the Clock Tower.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Investigation) Bhupinder Singh said the police would take action against the protesters who blocked traffic and vandalised shops. He said the police would not tolerate any such effort to disturb law and order situation in the city.

The supporters of Lamba also reached the Kotwali (near Clock Tower) and raised slogans in favour of the gangster.

Lovely is facing trial in at least 10 criminal cases, including murder.
