National Mission for Clean Ganga’s Director General R R Mishra said efforts were being made to ensure that the remains of ashes of wood that are left after burning of bodies on the banks of the Ganga are put to use in tree sapling plantation activity proposed alongside Ganga.

RR Mishra was in Rishikesh and held an interactive programme at Pramarth Niketan. He said as part of Namami Gange project, the ghats were to be cleaned and beautified.

Äs per practice, the ashes of wood that are left after burning of bodies at crematorium are washed away into the Ganga leaving it polluted. “We plan that these ashes are put to use in plantation of tree saplings alongside Ganga”, RR Mishra pointed out.

Referring to Uttarakhand, he said all efforts would be made to ensure continuity of flow of Ganga in Haridwar during the forthcoming kumbh melas in the state. In order to make Ganga pollution free, Ganga Haritima campaign will continue in the state.

He said as part of the cleanliness campaign, arrangements are also being made to ensure 24-hour cleanliness drive at Ganga ghats.  Earlier, Parmarth Niketan Head Swami Chidanand Saraswati greeted the Director General at Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh.
