Dehradun, March 8

The Uttarakhand government has given its approval for withdrawing the personal security extended to the South African businessmen Atul Gupta and Ajay Gupta during their stay in Dehradun. The Department of Home affairs said that the order is expected to be released in a day or two.

Significantly, the Gupta brothers Atul and Ajay are eligible for Z category security in Dehradun. Though the brothers are paying for their security it is the guards from the state police who are deployed for their personal security.

Already the Department of Income Tax is examining the documents and other tax details that were reportedly seized from their house on Curzon road during a raid by income tax officers on Wednesday.

The Income Tax officers said that if need be their properties would be attached. “They may be in hiding outside the country, but most of their properties are here. In case there is a case of invasion of tax dues, their properties could be attached,” said a senior officer in the Department of Income Tax.
