Harassed by stalker, Rohtak girl burns self

ROHTAK: Perturbed over being stalked by a neigbourhood youth, a 19-year girl residing in Shriramnagar Colony of Rohtak town burnt herself at her home.

Perturbed over being stalked by a neigbourhood youth, a 19-year girl residing in Shriramnagar Colony of Rohtak town burnt herself at her home. She has been admitted to the local PGIMS with 95 per cent burns. Her condition is said to be critical.

Rohtak SSP Rakesh Arya said here today that the accused stalker and his brother had been booked and arrested. The girl had not lodged any complaint with the police prior to the suicide attempt, the SSP maintained. In her statement recorded before a magistrate, the girl has alleged that Kapil had been stalking her for five months. She said Kapil’s brother, Kulwant, and his father also backed him. She said she had not told anybody about it as Kapil had threatened her with dire consequences.

On the basis of the girl’s statement, the police has lodged an FIR under Sections 306, 34, 506 and 511 of the IPC.
