The Manohar Lal Khattar government on Tuesday announced Rs 20 lakh and a job for the next of kin of head constable Rai Singh Indora, 39, who died after being hit by a mortar shell from across the border in Kashmir’s Rajouri sector.

The announcement was made by Transport Minister Krishan Lal Pawar after Rai Singh was cremated with full state honors at the village here.

“The Haryana government has decided to give Rs 20 lakh and a job to the next of kin of Rai Singh,” Panwar told ANI.

“A park in Kheri-Sampla will also be named after Rai Singh and a statue of him would be installed at the place of his cremation,” he added.

When asked as to whom the government would award the job, Panwar said, “The eldest son of Rai Singh is 16 and he can get it once he is 18.”

Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also attended the cremation and paid tributes to the martyr.

“Not only Rohtak or Haryana but the entire nation is proud of the martyrdom of Rai Singh. On behalf of the entire Congress Party I pay respects to the martyr,” he said.

Rai Singh is survived by wife Sunita and sons Hitesh, Paras and Karamvir.

“Through his busy schedule, my father would find time to talk to us. He called daily, to enquire about our well-being,” Hitesh, 16, the oldest of the three, said.

Rai Singh’s elder brother, Ramesh, who retired from the BSF in April, said the government should take care of the family of his brother.

“The government should look at the plight of his kids. They have lost their father and their future must be secured by the government,” he said. ANI
