The problem of power shortage for industrial units is likely to be a thing of past if a move made by the government goes well.

The state has directed the units consuming 50 KW or above to install solar plants each to meet part of their power demand by September, 2015. The move has been hailed by various industrial associations.

“This is an excellent move to make the units self reliant and to combat the problem of power shortage which is a major issue for us,” claimed Rajiv Chawla,” chairman, Integrated Association of the Micro, Small and Medium Industries of India (IAMSME).

While some of the units here had already opted for this alternative, the association had signed a MOU with Bosch India for setting up solar plants for its members, he added.

A unit was required to install a minimum of a 10 KW plant costing Rs. 7.5 lakh and this cost would be recovered in five years. The life the plant was around 25 years. Such units will be able to save up to Rs4 lakh a year as compared to power co0nsumed from the power utilities, he pointed out.

Navdeep Chawla of the Faridabad Industries Association (FIA) said that 8,000 units in Faridabad and around 50,000 in Haryana which will set up such plants, he revealed.
