The CBI today opposed the application of defence and said cross-examination of Additional District and Sessions Judge RK Jain of the Hisar court should be done through videoconferencing in the cash-at-door scam case involving former Judge Nirmal Yadav.

The special CBI court has set the next date of hearing for March 31. The defence had earlier moved an application in the court pleading that he should be presented before the court rather than through video conferencing.

Charges are already framed against Yadav under Section 11 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and four others under various sections of the IPC, including Section 120-B (conspiracy) by the court.

The case dates back to August, 2008, when a bag containing Rs 15 lakh was “wrongly delivered” at the residence of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, following which she reported the matter to the police. The money was allegedly delivered by Parkash Ram, a clerk of then Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjiv Bansal. Investigations revealed that the money was sent by Delhi-based hotelier Ravinder Singh for Justice Yadav through Bansal for delivering a judgment in his favour.
