MC to provide relief to Sadia’s mother

CHANDIGARH: UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev today gave consent to provide compensation to the family of six-year-old Sadia, who died of rabies late on Wednesday night.

UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev today gave consent to provide compensation to the family of six-year-old Sadia, who died of rabies late on Wednesday night.

After the Adviser’s consent, the MC will now provide compensation to the family, said city Mayor Poonam Sharma.

The Mayor said she met the UT Adviser today to discuss various issues pertaining to the stray dog menace in the city. At the meeting, the Adviser also gave his consent to provide compensation to Sadia’s mother. The Adviser asked the MC to make provision for providing the compensation. Now, the agenda will be placed before the Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) at a meeting on April 23 to decide the compensation amount, she said.

During the meeting, the Mayor discussed the dog sterilisation programme with the Adviser and demanded that a joint meeting of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali should be convened soon to deal with the matter.

Residents seek answers from Mayor on Facebook

City residents today posed several questions pertaining to the stray dog menace and sterilisation drive to Mayor Poonam Sharma on Facebook. In her replies, the Mayor said the MC was doing its best to deal with the menace. In one of her replies, she once again targeted NGOs for creating hurdles in the sterilisation drive of the MC.
