Haryana Opposition leader Abhay Chautala had a narrow escape as several vehicles piled up near Nilokheri on National Highway-1 owing to dense fog.

Abhay, who was on his way from Chandigarh to Bhiwani, and his staff are safe.

Later, addressing the media, Abhay hit out at the state government for poor traffic management during fog. He said there were several vehicles already piled up on NH-1 but were not removed. He demanded that police patrolling on NH-1 be intensified and ambulances deployed there.

Abhay accused the state government of spending huge amount on Gita Jayanti for self-promotion instead of on development works. He said the government should control accidents instead of spending money on self-advertisements.

He was in his official vehicle Fortuner and his driver had to apply emergency brakes near Samanabahu due to several vehicles piled-up in front, following which the escort vehicle following his vehicle rammed into his vehicle.

Abhay lashed out at the BJP government for removing Kurukshetra’s name from Gita Mahotsav by renaming it as International Gita Mahotsav. “I have told all MLAs to join hands for the SYL on February 23 so that the waters of the state could be brought and I have also written to them.”

The government should recover the Rs 450 crore from the previous Hooda government which spent this amount on the construction of the Hansi Butana canal but failed to bring water in it, he said.
