Nine lakh take Ganga dip on Mesh Sankranti

HARIDWAR: Over 9 lakh devotees took a dip in the Ganga on the occasion of Mesh Sankranti here today. It was the eighth festive bath of the ongoing Ardh Kumbh.

Over 9 lakh devotees took a dip in the Ganga on the occasion of Mesh Sankranti here today. It was the eighth festive bath of the ongoing Ardh Kumbh.

Ardh Kumbh IGP Martolia said around 9 lakh devotees arrived in the mela zone till 7 pm. They were mainly from the northern part of the country. Devotees also thronged several temples as it was ashtami of Chaitra Navratra. The shrines of Mata Mansa Devi, Mata Chandi Devi, Mata Maya Devi, Mata Sureshwari Devi, Mata Vaishno Devi, Mata Sheetla Mata, Daksheshwar Maha Dev temple and other temples witnessed a rush of pilgrims.

Elaborate security arrangements and traffic route plan were in place at Ganga ghats and temples to check chaos throughout the day.

Mela officer in charge SA Murugesan said, “Security and other arrangements will be in place on the occasion of Ram Navami tomorrow.”
