A group of students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh, watched the proceedings of the state Legislative Assembly as members of the House discussed demand of grants for the Education Department here today.

This was the first experience for the students of the Girls Higher Secondary School to witness the proceedings. Soon after they were seated, Speaker Kavinder Gupta informed the members about the presence of the students, who were welcomed by the members of the Assembly. Later, during the proceedings when Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmad Khan took the chair, he also informed the House and welcomed the group of over 20 students watching the proceedings.

While participating in the discussion on the demand for grants for the Education Department, Amirakadal MLA also welcomed the students from the school falling in his constituency. He also sought financial assistance for the school to undertake infrastructure development on its premises. Later, the students called on Speaker Kavinder Gupta at his office.

The Speaker told the students to explore politics as a career option. “By entering politics, young leaders can introduce creative reforms in society that can contribute for the larger wellbeing of society,” Gupta said. — TNS
