Dharamsala, May 21

Protests continued in Dharamsala over the alleged rape, but the police today clarified that there was no substance in the case and it was based on rumours.

Students of the Government College and the regional centre of Himachal Pradesh University, along with local residents, protested in front of the office of the college Principal, the SP office and the DC office, demanding the arrest of the accused.

As the news spread that the police had identified the girl who had complained to the college Principal and brought her to the Dharamsala police station, the protesters gathered there.

They tried to enter the police station forcibly, but the police foiled their attempt. The protesters included women who alleged that such incidents were a shame on Dharamsala.

The protesters dispersed when the police came on record and said the complainant and the alleged victim had denied that any incident of rape or eve-teasing happened.

Gangrape a blot on state's face: HPCC

Chamba: HPCC district spokesperson Dharam Malhotra accompanied by Himachal Pradesh Social Media Coordinator of the Indian Youth Congress Bhavna Malhotra has stated that the alleged gangrape of a girl at Dharamsala is a blot on the face of the state. Addressing a joint media conference here on Thursday, both office-bearers of the Congress urged Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to order a CBI inquiry to bring the truth of the case. They said the girl was reported to have connection with Chamba district hence there was a lot of resentment in the district. They further requested the Chief Minister to ask investigating agencies to deal with this incident speedily so that the culprits could be brought to book.— OC
