State to follow NEET for medical admissions

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Department of Medical education will undertake admissions to medical and dental courses through the National Eligibility–cum–Entrance Test (NEET) to be conducted by the Indian Medical Council of India.

The Uttarakhand Department of Medical education will undertake admissions to medical and dental courses through the National Eligibility–cum–Entrance Test (NEET) to be conducted by the Indian Medical Council of India.

“We will follow the Supreme Court directives regarding the admissions for MBBS and BDS courses for this academic session and conduct it through NEET-II ,” said Om Prakash Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education, while addressing media persons today.

Om Prakash said for this academic session the new Government Doon Medical College Hospital had been given a total of 150 seats in which 85 percent seats would be reserved for the students figuring in the state merit (entrance examination) 15 per cent seats for all India rankers.

In the state-run Srinagar Medical College and Haldwani Medical College, 85 seats have been reserved under the state quota, while in HIHT medical college and Guru Ram Rai (both private) 25 seats have been reserved under the state quota. In Uttaranachal Medical College, 50 per cent seats have been kept under the state quota; similarly, 50 per cent seats for BDS in Seema Dental College (private).

Further the Department of Medical education has decided to return the fees of students who had applied online for the Uttarakhand Pre-Medical Test (UPMT-2016).

Significantly, the first phase of the NEET was held on May 1 and the second phase of the examination will be held on July 24.
