Thrust on empowering rural women

DALHOUSIE: With an aim at generating self-employment among women, the Yog Manav Vikas Trust (YMVT), Banikhet, has been imparting training to empower women in various trades through its vocational training institute for the last 14 years.

With an aim at generating self-employment among women, the Yog Manav Vikas Trust (YMVT), Banikhet, has been imparting training to empower women in various trades through its vocational training institute for the last 14 years. It has got accreditation from the National Institute of Open Schools, Government of India.

Giving this information here yesterday, trust chairperson Kiran Dodeja said so far almost 2,000 rural youths, which included 85 per cent girls and women, had completed training in various vocational courses.

She said these courses included tailoring, dress designing, beauty culture, secretarial practices and certificate in computer applications with certificates issued by the Government of India on completion.

“Many of these women have adopted self-employment, particularly in the field of cutting and beauty culture, and are supporting their families,” she said.

She said the Vocational Training Institute, Banikhet, had now opened three more branches at Hathni, Surangani and Khairi with the cooperation of the Baira-Suil Power Station and the Chamera Power Station to cater to the needs of remote villages in the region.

“Quality education and training through professional trainers and quality sewing machines, computers and teaching aids has been our core thrust besides inculcating moral values to them. Audio-visual training has also been added in the training,” Dodeja said.
