Uttarkashi District Magistrate Ashish Kumar Shrivastava inspected polling booths for the Assembly elections yesterday. He visited the Dunda block and directed the officials concerned to shift the polling booth set up in an old building to the premises of Government Inter College and also plan a safe route to ensure that voters, especially physically challenged, face no hindrance on the polling day. The school principal was directed to maintain cleanliness.

At Chinyali Saud, he gave directions for the repair of the broken floor of the polling booth at a government primary school. He also inspected booths at Barkot and took stock of the arrangements at a meeting held at Naugaon and Purola.

The District Magistrate said free and fair elections should be ensured in the district. He announced cash prizes of Rs 1,000 each for Matdata Didis whose gram panchayat areas would witness a surge in polling percentage and Rs 750 for those who would bring positive results in their booths.

The returning officers were directed to create a strong room in the college where the polling booths are being set up and make arrangement for the transportation of the polling parties to various booths in the district.

The police were told to check the sale of liquor in the areas bordering Himachal Pradesh in the district. “Liquor shops at Pandranu, Anti and Kuddu bordering Himanchal Pradesh will remain shut from January 14 to February 15. The police will assist election officials in keeping a watch over anti-social elements,” he added.
